Honeymoon of dreams!

'It was just the most incredible experience'

Have you ever imagined what your dream honeymoon would be? Where you would go, what you'd get up to, and the memories you'd take away from it? Every since I was a little girl, dreaming of getting married one day, I always loved the idea of going to Hawaii or some kind of exotic country like that, and as I got older and I saw what the amazing islands in the Maldives had to offer I knew that that would be my dream honeymoon location.

Fortunately, Jack had the same lust for the white sands and turquoise sea and after asking people to not give us gifts but a small donation towards our honeymoon at the wedding (and a lot of saving too) we finally had enough to book ourselves a 10 night stay at Cinnamon Dhonveli, just one of the amazing resorts in the Maldives.

We opted for a beach hut for our honeymoon home, and boy are we glad we did! We had our own little patio area, and then you were literally on the beach. As much as the water bungalows look lovely, they are quite a lot more expensive plus me and Jack are beach babies anyway (we didn't spend a single day by the pool) so it made sense to us.

Every morning at around 7am I would wake up and take a mere few steps onto the beach, claiming our sun loungers for the day by placing our towels and books out. The sun was already coming up by now, but it was still a beautiful sight to see, and there would only ever be me and maybe one or two others on the beach at this point, soaking up the peaceful view. Of course I did get up early to watch the sun rise on our last day, as how could you not? I managed to catch it on a time-lapse before the wind blew my phone over! And not to mention how beautiful the sunsets are at night, especially whilst sitting on the decking at the bar, enjoying a cocktail or two before dinner, and keeping an eye out for shark fins popping up every now and then in the distance.

For the most part of our days we would just chill on our sun loungers, read our books, take a dip in the sea or go snorkelling and take a wonder around the island. This kind of getaway appeals to us as we have quite a busy lifestyle at home, so ultimate relaxation was a must for our honeymoon and we certainly enjoyed every single second of doing absolutely nothing! Having said that, we did take a couple of excursions, the first of which was heading out on a boat to see some dolphins! This has been a dream of mine since goodness knows when (I'm still determined to swim with them one day) and after being on the boat for no more than five minutes and seeing around 15-20 dolphins pop up to say hello it's safe to say I got a little emotional! It was so surreal to finally see my favourite animal swimming alongside us, including baby dolphins no bigger than a 30cm ruler (!!), and doing spins in the air, it was just the most incredible experience!

The day after we headed out about an hour away from our island to swim with turtles, a must on mine and Jack's bucket list! It was a bit scary in a way as we were in the middle of the ocean, kind of close to another island but not close enough, and neither me nor Jack have ever done anything like this so we were a little out of our comfort zones, but as soon as you look down and see the turtles you forget all about it. Most of the time the turtles were eating and just minding their own business, they really didn't seam to mind us being there. Luckily for us we managed to see a turtle come up for air, and as we were already close to them we were even closer by the time he came to the surface and he actually touched Jack with his fin (he was so happy, haha!).

We, of course, went all inclusive for our honeymoon and so much was included we honestly didn't spend any money on anything other than the excursions! It was hands down the best holiday we have ever been on and we would love to go back in the future. We've been home for almost two months now and we still talk about it and watch back the video we created of our time there. Everyone on the island was so friendly and helpful, and really made you feel welcome. These are just a few of my favourite photos from our trip but head on over to my Instagram to see more.

If your wondering if the Maldives really lives up to the hype (as a lot of people have asked me) it really does! If you're thinking of going and ever get a chance to then definitely go, you will not regret it!
